I'm expecting the imminent "I wish Blink didn't break up" comments to stem from this post but let's face it, it's time to let go. Yes, I feel the need to diverge into a quick opinion on Blink 182. They were no doubt going to create some timeless music for my life, they already did that on their self titled disk which was by far their greatest piece of work. That won't happen though. Tom has stated that he has found his 'new home for the rest of his life'.
So while Tom continues to do his thing and expand his Angels and Airwaves empire, the other two-thirds have just begun. Mark and Travis of created a band called Plus 44 (or +44) following the Blink hiatus. Their debut LP entitled 'When Your Heart Stops Beating' is really quite good but don't expect anything different from Mark and Travis.
Highlights:
The CD packs a lot of punch and shows that Mark has some real songwriting ability crafting darker punk songs following the trend created from the last Blink record. The highlights of the album include first single and title track 'When Your Heart Stops Beating' which features one of the catchiest choruses of Mark's career. Arguably the best song is the song which is the most unlike Mark. 155 features some dancefloor synth over a danceable beat while remaining true to a punk rock sound. While I feel a need to upload the file 'Weatherman', I'll have to stay true to the Blink fans and post No It Isn't which is an unmistakable tribute to Tom Delonge with the opening line:
Being a huge Tom fan, the song rocks as much as it makes me bitter. It's still worth downloading though.
