Happy 31st Mr. Delonge!

Yes, Mr. Thomas Matthew Delonge, singer/guitarist/songwriter of Angels and Airwaves, turned 31 today. A very special Happy Birthday goes out to him.

I really fell in love with Tom's music through their last Blink LP which I picked up around March of this year. In my opinion, the more recent the Blink material, the better it got. I know a lot of people were turned off by their last CD, but it's really unstoppable, not a bad track on it. And please, any CD with Robert Smith on it is the shit.

Angels and Airwaves really stepped it up for me too. It took me a while to really fall in love with the CD but surprisingly, I'd put it among my top CD's of 2006, or at least my most played CD's. If you don't have it, seriously, go spend the 10-12 dollars and get it. It may take a few listens but you'll love it after a few.

I was a little worried about the Plus 44 CD coming out just because I didn't want them to triumph over AVA. They didn't. The (+44) CD is a good rocking album but my copy has already been put back into my shelves while my 'We Don't Need To Whisper' CD stays firmly in the 4 spot in my Sony player.

Here are some of the songs that Tom has written that have shaped me into the fan I am today. At least one from each band...

Not Now - Blink 182
Start The Machine - Angels and Airwaves
There Is - Boxcar Racer

Not Now is a song that was featured on their greatest hits package and (if I'm not mistaken) on their UK single release of "Feelin' This". The songs terrific and kind of sheds light on his AVA transformation. The song's lyrics seem to contemplate dying too young.

Start The Machine is his most personal work by far. Using metaphors to describe his departure from his Blink life and then the climax of the entire AVA album when he chooses love and family over himself and the band. Truly inspirational.

There Is is a terrific song from his Boxcar Racer endeavour.

I'm so tempted to post I'm Lost Without You because it's an amazing song and worthy of a listen from a fan or not. I won't however and hope that if you are even a moderate fan of Tom Delonge, check out his new band or the last Blink CD.
