I feel terrible for every member of Bloc Party and every member of their team. Firstly, Matt Tong suffered from a collapsed lung forcing them to cancel their remaining tourdates with Panic! At The Disco and Jack's Mannequin.
I was actually offered a ticket to a show that happened last week. I was being offered a 55 dollar ticket for 25 dollars. Thank god I didn't take it. Can you imagine getting all worked up to see Bloc Party play and then seeing only Panic! At The Disco and some other emo band? Wow.
Unfortunately the bad news does not end for Bloc Party there. Their second studio LP entitled 'A Weekend In The City' has suddenly leaked onto the internet as of November 10th. The release date is astonishingly on February 7th (6th in the UK). It can be safely assumed that this leak is of an unmastered copy however. I couldn't imagine the band being completely done with the LP and waiting for 3 months before releasing it.
Regardless, the CD is all over the internet now. Torrents, Soulseek, Limewire, well you get the point. It's unfortunate because the CD really is tremendous and hopefully they don't lose out on too many sales when the CD finally is released. The first 5 tracks are some of the best material Bloc Party have ever written while the last 6 tracks are definately growers and need repeated listens to fully appreciate the greatness of them.
Immediate standout Hunting For Witches has been played live since early May and is now here in polished, studio form and the results are incredible.
Another fantastic track is future single The Prayer which delivers bass thumping verses followed by shimmering synth over the choruses.
The album is fantastic and if you do download, please plan on buying the CD when it's released.
